Am I really creating a Makeup Substack??
Do I really need another hat to wear? Another blog/platform? Could this be the answer to creating an ideal makeup community?
If you follow me on any social media platform you will know that I am very real as an educator. I’m not going to blow sunshine you-know-where, or bounce from one trend to the next. Brands are not paying me to sell you the latest and greatest whatever. And I’m not going to lose my mind over a pink powder, say it has “changed my life” and insist that everyone must have one.
That isn’t me. I’m not fluffy, or dramatic, or whimsical. I’ve been doing makeup since the late 80’s and working as an educator and creator of education since 2010. (In other words, I’m not following someone else’s agenda/outline or class. I’m creating education for my business and other brands and schools.) I am an expert. I have a talent for taking technique and breaking it down into bite sized steps, for “dumbing” down application and color theory. I make it simple and easy to follow. I’m also obsessed with how color theory can be used in skin and makeup. That is what led me to create my 2 color theory tools, The Flesh Tone Color Wheel® and The Flesh Tone Fan™. So now I’m also an expert on color theory in makeup.
The problem with social media is that it has become overly saturated. Everyone thinks they are an expert and there is no accountability. They all copy each other, sell whatever they get paid to “be obsessed with”, and have no understanding of history or reference or where technique comes from. That is why I’m stepping in.
Social media platforms like Tik Tok and Instagram have been good to me. But there is no control. Maybe 10 people will see a video or maybe 10k will. And once a video is posted, it is almost impossible to search for the information it contains. So, Substack.
Yes, I’m asking you to subscribe and hope that it feels like a reasonable cost for the value of what you will get. My goal is to have accessible, searchable makeup application and theory that is simple and easy. We will have written posts, videos and interaction. My goal is to create a communal space that is bullshit free, makeup focused, kind and helpful.
Welcome!
And thank you, Terri.
