What is Spring Color?

So, the weather is finally warming up and you are looking for that perfect pair of linen pants. You pull out the whites, sleeveless shirt and light sweater. It is Spring! This Spring you promise yourself to finally get some butter yellow into your wardrobe, or that soft melon that is so attractive to you. Maybe you aren’t into a lot of color but move into a lighter wash of denim or a clean white top.

We tend to move into lighter fabrics and colors as the weather warms up. They keep us cool and absorb less light. Crinkly linens and cottons are worn loose, flowy after being buttoned up all winter. The flowers bloom and we mimic the spring colors of nature in our clothing. Everything is suddenly pastel, soft and warm.

But….do we also change our eye, cheek and lip colors to match? Should we change or lighten the foundation we use? What about powder? Do we add a bronzer? These are all great questions to ask.

Let’s discuss.

Wearing Pastel Makeup Colors for Spring

As a professional makeup artist who got her start in the retail world, I do recommend shaking up the routine a tiny bit to mirror styles of the seasons. In retail, we would launch a color story every season. These stories would follow fashion and color trends. Although my job at the time, of course, was to sell product I found that shifting my makeup for the seasons helped me shift my mood as well.

I felt “ready for Spring” by choosing more spring-like colors in my makeup. I also felt that these new colors balanced with the lighter clothing I naturally wore. So, I will say that YES, you should change up some of your makeup each season. However, I do not believe that means you have to suddenly look like an Easter Egg basket. If you don’t like pastels, don’t wear them. It also doesn’t mean you need all new makeup, just a few tweeks can freshen you up for warmer weather and more sunshine.

Pantone Forecast Colors Fashion Week Spring 2025

Makeup Colors for Spring 2025

According to Vogue we will see a lot of flowy and wispy clothing in Spring 2025. I love to look at fashion to see what is trending, what new styles are coming. If you are interested in fashion, this is a great way to get inspired. I also like to see color forecasts by Pantone and follow Fashion Week to see what’s new. I love to add a new color to my wardrobe, even if it is just a green t-shirt. Something new and “spring”.

If you are not into fashion, that is okay. Some of us don’t have big changes to our clothing from season to season. We might exchange the wool sweater for a cotton cardi, or move from long to short sleeve t-shirts. Whatever your level, you still benefit from a little change in the wardrobe and makeup department. One option is to look at the colors above and seeing if anything interests you. If you are attracted to any of the colors, maybe you add 1 piece of clothing or one makeup product in that color.
